Here in Texas we just survived the #Snowpocalypse2021, and we are ready for some warmer weather! Watching the O’Reilly Auto Parts 253 at Daytona should do the trick to get us on the road to beachier times. Today’s Daytona 500 season opening NASCAR race falls on a cross-section of celebrations. Not only does the racing season start (and that’s always a big deal), but this is the last weekend before Mardi Gras. The carnival season is a long post-Christmas celebration for us full of food, decorations and drinks. It all ends Tuesday night since Ash Wednesday is coming, so these are our last few days of debauchery. Today is a marathon of racing! It’s a tripleheader for race fans. We start off with the Monaco Grand Prix, followed by the Indianapolis 500, and we finish with the Coca Cola 600. It’s the 50th anniversary of Dover International Speedway and the Fordham and Dominion Brewing Company released a Splash and Go Lager to commemorate it. The beer is named after the pit strategy used by racing teams at Dover to survive the Monster Mile where they swing down pit road just for a splash of fuel and keep going. Today while we are watching the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway from the back patio, we are munching down on the iconic Talla-Mento Dogwich. Although it’s only been in concession stands at Talladega for about three years, it’s catching on in popularity.
