Eating and Drinking and Racing All Day

by Dixie Haag | Posted on Sunday, May 26th, 2019

Today is a marathon of racing!  It’s a tripleheader for race fans.  We start off with the Monaco Grand Prix, followed by the Indianapolis 500, and we finish with the Coca Cola 600.  At our house we will be eating and drinking along the way while the races blast from the patio television.

Breakfast in Monaco

We will start this morning with drinks commemorating the flags of racing: yellow mimosas, red bloody mary’s and green bellinis!  Breakfast drinks with some pastries is on the menu for our first race of the day.  Since we’ll be going all day, we are starting off light.  That’s the way most folks in Monaco do it, too–a light breakfast with a heartier lunch and dinner.  Our pastry selection will include some chocolate covered donuts (they look like tires!), some croissants and sausages wrapped in light dough.  We need a little protein base for our drinking, so we will add a little eggs benedict to the menu!  While some lucky spectators watch the race from yachts in the Mediterranean, we will be living the life in Texas!

Lunch in Indianapolis

Next up is the Indianapolis 500!  We will continue the festivities with some biscuits and gravy since it’s still pretty

early here and it’s still my favorite Indy pairing!  As the race goes on we will enjoy the delicasies fans enjoy at a drive in close to the track called the Mug ‘n Bun.  We will munch on onion rings (I’m just going to fry up some pre-prepared rings I bought), a fried tenderloin sandwich, and wash it down with some rootbeer  (I’ll be doing Not Your Father’s Rootbeer).  While we won’t be there in person, we will certainly enjoy the fun food they serve!  Since the winner will celebrate with a bottle of milk, we will have a milkshake for dessert!

Dinner in Charlotte

Finally, we will end our eating and drinking marathon with a good southern meal of pulled pork sandwiches and coleslaw.  We will wash it down with some Coca Cola mixed drinks.  Mike’s going to bar-b-q a pork butt all day while we watch the races and I’ll toss the finished product with a Coca Cola BBQ Sauce.  I’ll so a traditional creamy coleslaw and sip on cocktails with coca cola all evening!

No matter how you spend the day, it should a fun marathon of eating, drinking and racing!
