With the NASCAR Sprint Cup series at Phoenix International Raceway for the Good Sam 500, I knew I’d want to make some standard Southwest recipes. I’m looking forward to the Auto Club 400 on May 20. Dale Jr and Jimmy Johnson are putting on their superhero fire suits and climbing in their specially painted cars in honor of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie that releases May 25. I’ve ridden on it and thought the tour van just might topple over. I’ve stood on the finish line and walked through a luxury suite. I won’t be home today during the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. I will be working a local basketball tournament. It’s one of those many, many days when there are several different places I would like to be. So, my husband will DVR the race in case something happens I just HAVE to see when I get home later. I am not a life-long race fan. I have become a race fan strictly through proximity. I married into it. When I said “for better or worse, in sickness and in health” that included race day, race weekend, race season and all that comes with it. Granted, I didn’t marry a driver, so I escaped the danger. The Daytona 500 is like the SuperBowl in my house. Sometimes we go to watch parties, and sometimes we stay home. This year we opted for an at-home viewing. We set up optimum viewing with additional speakers attached to the TVs for the “Crank It Up” sections of the race. The race day menu for today’s Daytona 500 will include some easier options since my full-time jobs of mom and educator limit my time!
