NOTEWORTHY:

  • Zane Smith of Front Row Motorsports is the only driver with multiple wins through the first eight races. He registered his third of the season in this past Saturday’s race at Kansas Speedway. His other wins came in the season opener at Daytona and the Circuit of The Americas road course.
  • The other race winners this season are Chandler Smith of Kyle Busch Motorsports (Las Vegas), Corey Heim of Kyle Busch Motorsports (Atlanta), Ben Rhodes of ThorSport Racing (Bristol), John Hunter Nemechek of Kyle Busch Motorsports (Darlington), along with full-time Cup Series driver William Byron (Martinsville) who drove for Spire Motorsports. Heim, a rookie, is the only first-time winner among the group, recording his inaugural NCWTS victory at Atlanta.
  • Toyota (Chandler Smith, Heim, Rhodes, Nemechek) leads the way with four wins on the season while Ford has three (Zane Smith) and Chevrolet one (Byron).
  • The top four drivers in the series points standings are separated by just 29 points. Rhodes is the leader and followed by Nemechek (-20), Zane Smith (-21) and Chandler Smith (-29).
  • Nemechek is the defending polesitter and race winner of the SpeedyCash.com 220 at Texas Motor Speedway. He won by 3.361 seconds over Chase Elliott. Rounding out the top five were Grant Enfinger, Austin Hill and Chandler Smith, respectively.
  • Kyle Busch Motorsports and GMS Racing have combined to win the last 12 NCWTS races at Texas Motor Speedway dating to 2015. KBM has seven of the dozen and Nemechek’s win last season gave the organization four of the last five. The last team to win outside of those two organizations was ThorSport Racing when Matt Crafton won the 2015 summer event.
  • Todd Bodine, track recordholder for career NCWTS victories with six, is among the 39 entries for the SpeedyCash.com 220. Bodine, whose last Texas win came in the summer of 2010, will be driving the No. 62 entry for Halmar Friesen Racing. It will be Bodine’s third start of the season and he is coming off a season-best 10th at Darlington.
  • The polesitter has gone on to win the last two NCWTS races at TMS, with Nemechek doing so last season and Sheldon Creed winning the 2020 fall event. Prior to those two, the last polesitter to win was Bodine in the summer race of 2007.
  • ThorSport Racing’s Ty Majeski is coming off a career-best, runner-up finish at Kansas Speedway that moved him up to fifth in the points standings. It was his third top-five finish on the season and continues to inch closer to that first NCWTS career win. He may want to lean on his teammate Matt Crafton’s extensive experience at TMS. Crafton is the track’s all-time NCWTS leader for starts (41), top-five finishes (17), top-10 finishes (29) and laps completed (6,304) to go along with two victories.
  • NASCAR Cup Series fulltime driver Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing will be competing in the SpeedyCash.com 220. He will be driving the No. 141 entry for Niece Motorsports.

The SpeedyCash.com 220 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race will be held Friday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. (FS1, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, MRN, and 95.9 The Ranch) and the SRS Distribution 250 Xfinity Series race on Saturday, May 21, at 12:30 p.m. (FS1, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, PRN, and 95.9 The Ranch). Both will be televised live on FS1 and aired locally on 95.9 The Ranch. The NASCAR Open will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 (FS1, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, MRN, and 95.9 The Ranch) and the NASCAR All-Star Race at 7 p.m. (FS1, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, MRN, and 95.9 The Ranch).

Country music superstar Blake Shelton will perform a live concert Sunday beginning at 5:30 p.m. as part of the NASCAR All-Star pre-race festivities.
