After being closed for several seasons, R&M Promotions has picked up the lease on the ¼ mile, semi-banked, dirt oval and will begin their season this coming weekend. After a successful open practice on Saturday the 18th, another Friday practice is slated for the six classes running at the facility. Saturday night will be the tracks first official race. For some drivers it was their first chance to show off a new car, new wrap or just turn some laps. Goliad, Texas – Much like the closing of an off-Broadway play, it’s a sad night as racing concludes on Shady Oaks Speedway for the Stacy family. Unlike some off season closures, for this one, everyone there knew it might be their last chance to see racing action on the 31 year old speedway set amongst the scenic oak trees that separated this track for many others. Goliad, Texas – Friday the USMTS Road Warriors returned for a second night of racing on the 3/8 mile Shady Oaks Speedway along with the Limited Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Last night fans were treated to a good night of racing that saw 50 cars in action on a surface that slicked off throughout the night. Paige, TX. – Over the past two nights “Team Hughes” has taken the early stranglehold on the USMTS season. Thursday night saw the newest member of the team, Ryan Gustin take home the checkers going wire to wire. Marion, Texas – While most racers are trying to stay warm while finishing their off-season rebuild, San Antonio Raceway held its first event of the year. The day began with an open test-n-tune giving those ready for the long season ahead the chance to try out new parts, new set ups and break in those new slicks. By JM Hallas Marion, TX., – With two days of racing behind them, drivers had one more shot to pick up some cash as the South Texas Winter Shootout concluded on the drag strip just outside of San Antonio. After near freezing temperatures overnight the sun was a warm welcome with temperatures again rising to a comfortable high-60’s during the day. Time trials were delayed a bit giving track temperatures a chance come back.
