NOTEWORTHY:

  • Texas Motor Speedway will be hosting the second race in the opening Round of 12 of the seven-race NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs. Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the Sept. 15 opener, which was won by playoff qualifier Justin Allgaier. The victory earns Allgaier an automatic berth into the Round of 8.
  • Texas Motor Speedway has hosted the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs since the format began in 2016. The inaugural Playoff race was held on Nov. 5 and won by Cup Series fulltime driver Kyle Larson.
  • Allgaier has top-10 finishes in more than half of his career starts at Texas with 13 in 25 appearances. He has been on a run of late with finishes of fourth or better in four of his last six starts, including a personal best of second in 2021. He also has started among the top 10 in nine of his last 10 visits.
  • Allgaier leads all Playoff drivers at Texas Motor Speedway in top-10 finishes (13), top-five finishes (5) and laps led (226).
  • John Hunter Nemechek and Cole Custer are the only NXS Playoff drivers with a victory at Texas Motor Speedway. Nemechek’s win came in 2021 while Custer posted his in 2018.
  • Brandon Jones is the only driver in the field with a pole position at Texas, winning it in last season’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300.
  • Following Bristol, the four playoff drivers currently on the bubble and trailing the eighth and final transfer position held by Sheldon Creed are Jeb Burton (9th, -4), Sam Mayer (10th, -14), Parker Kligerman (11th, -22) and Josh Berry (12th, -24). Mayer and Berry both posted top-10 finishes in the two races at Texas last season. Mayer finished third in the May race and followed with an eighth in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. Berry finished seventh and sixth, respectively. Creed posted a top-10 finish last season as well, taking seventh in this race. Burton owns three top-10 finishes in 10 career starts with a best of fifth in 2019. Kligerman will be making his first NXS start at Texas since 2013, when he finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in his two starts that season.
  • Jeremy Clements owns the track record for most Xfinity Series starts with 28. He made his first start at TMS in the fall of 2007 and continues to pursue his first career top-10 finish at the venue. His best finish is 11th, which came in the spring race of 2020.
  • Among playoff drivers, Mayer has the top average finishing position of 8.0 in three career starts. Nemechek is second at 9.4 (five starts) and Custer third at 9.5 (six starts).
  • Chevrolet swept at Texas Motor Speedway last season with Tyler Reddick winning in May and Noah Gragson in September. Prior to last season, Toyota had won three in a row and five of six.
  • The Xfinity Series races at Texas Motor Speedway have averaged double-digit lead changes in four of the last six races, including 14 last season.
  • Trevor Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 champ and an Xfinity Series winner at Texas Motor Speedway that same year, will be driving the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. It will be his third start of the season for JGR, including a recent seventh-place finish at Bristol. It will be his first NXS start at Texas since 2014. Bayne will be sponsored by Interstate Batteries, which also will sponsor the Cup entries of Ty Gibbs and Christopher Bell this weekend.

The NASCAR Playoffs weekend will be highlighted by the NASCAR Xfinity Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, and PRN), and the NASCAR Cup Series Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 on Sunday (2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, PRN, and 95.9 The Ranch-local).

Texas Motor Speedway’s always-busy events schedule is well under way. Upcoming events in 2023 include: Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 NASCAR Playoffs weekend (Sept. 23-24), Goodguys’ Summit Racing Lone Start Nationals (Sept. 29-Oct. 1), Speedway Children’s Charities Smoke Show (Oct. 11) and Gordy’s Hwy 30 Music Fest (Oct. 19-22). The year wraps up with the family-favorite and speedway tradition Gift of Lights holiday light show.
