ADEL, Ga. – The gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park have been open all week for racers to get set up for the eagerly anticipated Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Southern Sportsman Showdown in preparation for this weekend’s inaugural event. The unique race is the first of its kind, catering solely to Stock and Super Stock racers and offering big bucks, the opportunity to race with the best, and massive bragging rights.

Vernon, New Jersey, racer Matt Lisa will be in the mix driving the 1983 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Kenny Richards.

“It’s really refreshing to see the direction Sportsman racing is going, and I think this is going to be a lot of fun,” said Lisa, 25, who has been drag racing since he was 8 years old. “With a purse like this, you typically get the best of the best racers, and that’s the competition we’re looking forward to.”

The Southern Sportsman Showdown is the brainchild of veteran racers Dave Connolly, Jason Line, and Bo Butner, who came together to form BOLD Promotions and bring the event to life. Drivers set to attend include a plethora of former and reigning world champions, as well as racers who haven’t yet hit their big payday, and they’ll all be vying for a ton of cash and cool prizes offered by an esteemed assortment of vendors and businesses.

The Stock and Super Stock extravaganza features Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels $20,000 to win races on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with each day’s runner-up receiving $3,000, semifinalists scoring $1,500, and round money (with second-round win) awards set at $150. Single-day entry for any one of the three days is $325, and entry for the full weekend is $900.

A $50,000 to win Holley Performance 64-Car Shootout is slated to round out a full day of racing on Saturday with generous payouts to the runner-up ($5,000) and semifinalists ($1,500). Entry for the Holley Performance 64-Car Shootout is set at $1,000.

“Bo, Jason, and Dave have all been Sportsman racers like us, so they understand what it’s like from our perspective,” Lisa said. “The purse originally grabbed my attention, and you’ve seen the success of the big money bracket races. This event is already receiving a lot of attention, and winning it is going to get someone a lot of recognition in the world of Stock and Super Stock.”

The Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Southern Sportsman Showdown is scheduled to take place March 19-21, 2021 at South Georgia Motorsports Park.
