ENNIS, Texas – Known as the first super-stadium drag racing facility ever constructed the Texas Motorplex will be ramping up the excitement and entertainment on Friday, October 18. The first day of qualifying for the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals will feature the return of Friday night “Prime Time” highlighted by night time qualifying runs, pyrotechnics, fireworks and the always popular exhibition jet dragsters. The evening temperatures combined with the Motorplex’s all-concrete racing surface will be the perfect combination for header flames and record runs during the fourth race in the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship.

“We have one of the quickest and fastest racing surfaces in the country and we wanted to give the fans a chance to see record setting times and speeds,” said Andy Carter, Texas Motorplex General Manager. “The best way to do that is to race under the lights on Friday night. We will have a nitro qualifying session that starts at 7 p.m. featuring Funny Car legends like John Force, J.R. Todd and Ron Capps along with Top Fuel racers Steve Torrence from Kilgore, Doug Kalitta and Antron Brown as well as dozens more.”

The Friday night “Prime Time” qualifying session will also feature DJ introductions of all the Mello Yello Series Funny Car and Top Fuel competitors as well as between run pyrotechnics. Following the qualifying session fans will be treated to jet dragsters and an additional pyrotechnic display.

“It is  beyond exciting to see two 11,000 horsepower Funny Cars or Top Fuel dragsters run over 330 mph in under four seconds but when you add in pyrotechnics and great music it takes it to a whole new level,” added Carter. “This will be a sensory experience that will shake the ground, rattle your teeth and have you jumping out of your seats. They say everything is bigger in Texas well Friday night ‘Prime Time’ will be the biggest and baddest hot rod show you will see this year.”

The AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals will be contested from October 18-20 with two days of qualifying on Friday and Saturday. Nitro qualifying times for Friday are 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday the Top Fuel and Funny Car teams will hit the track at 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Final elimination will be contested on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. For tickets and more information visit www.texasmotorplex.com
