The 18-year-old and third-generation NASCAR driver walked across the stage prior to the start of the PPG 400 and officially graduated from high school.

Gilliland started on the outside pole position.  He is the fourth high school graduate/driver to be presented a diploma by Gossage.  In past years Erik Jones (2014), Cole Custer (2016) and Noah Gragson (2017).
