If you’re like me, you tend to skim over the names of the races from week to week. In general, race names reflect sponsorships by businesses.  I know that NASCAR<\/strong> is full of sponsorships. . .paint schemes, track names, car\/hauler stickers, firesuit patches, after-race drinks, etc.  This week’s race title caught my eye, though:  Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500<\/strong><\/a>.  When I was thinking about that title, I had no idea what the Folds of Honor Foundation is.  I had to find out.  If you don’t know either, it’s worth your time to find out, too.<\/p>\n

The Folds of Honor Foundation<\/a><\/strong> was formed in 2007.  It raises funds to pay for educational scholarships for the spouses and children of fallen or disabled soldiers.  As a teacher myself, the mission of this organization touches my innermost core values.  I believe that education is fundamentally important for everyone.  For families suffering incredible losses, affording college and focusing on school can be particularly difficult.  I love that the Folds of Honor Foundation is dedicated to helping the vulnerable populations who have given up so much for our country, for all of us.  I often have current and retired soldiers in my night college classes.  I’m often concerned about how little support our culture offers those who continue to serve and those who return from service. This foundation provides exactly that–support for those who have sacrificed so much.  As you watch this week’s race, take time to reflect on the men and women who have given so much.  When you see the military personnel at the race, when the national anthem is sung, when the flyover happens. . .think about the folds of honor foundation.<\/p>\n
