PORTLAND, Ore. – Felix Rosenqvist is determined to add another win for Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian before he leaves the team at the end of the current NTT IndyCar Series season.<\/p>\n

Rosenqvist will have one of his best chances to realize that goal after winning the NTT P1 Award for the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland on Saturday at Portland International Raceway.<\/p>\n

Reigning champion of the 110th<\/sup> Indianapolis 500 in May, Rosenqvist secured his second pole of the season and eighth of his INDYCAR career in MSR\u2019s No. 60 SiriusXM Honda sporting a colorful livery saluting legendary rock band the Grateful Dead. His best lap of 58.4828-seconds\/120.897 mph was completed with three seconds remaining in a taut Firestone Fast Six session.<\/p>\n

That was enough to edge point-leader and four-time\/reigning series champion Alex Palou, the Spaniard who will join Rosenqvist on the front row Sunday after his best lap of 58.5012-seconds\/120.859 mph in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a phenomenal team effort,\u201d said Rosenqvist, a 34-year-old native of Sweden. \u201cWe just kept tuning on it. I think we started off a little bit behind (Friday) and really didn\u2019t do anything magical. We just tried to focus on execution and putting all the corners together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rosenqvist will exit Ohio-based MSR _ a team that has two career victories, both in the Indy 500 _ after this season for Arrow McLaren. Felix will join six-time series champion and team-newcomer Scott Dixon of New Zealand and veteran ace Pato O\u2019Ward of Mexico.<\/p>\n

Palou, aiming for a record-tying fourth consecutive championship, missed securing his seventh pole of the season when Rosenqvist ended his final lap on the 1.964-mile\/12-turn natural terrain road-course.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had too much lunch today, man,\u201d Palou, 29, joked when asked where he could have found more speed on his best lap. \u201cIt\u2019s so close. It hurts when it\u2019s that close. But happy for Felix, happy for a Honda 1-2 there. Let\u2019s see what kind of car we have for the race.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 110-lap\/216.04-mile race will start at 4 p.m. (EDT) Sunday with broadcast coverage on FOX and FOX Deportes, FOX One and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls.<\/p>\n

Two-time series champion Will Power moved to Andretti Global this season after winning this race in 2024 and 2025, the last two of his 16 fulltime seasons with Team Penske. The native of Australia showed why this is one of his favorite tracks by qualifying third at 58.5130-seconds\/120.835 mph in the No. 26 TWG AI Honda.<\/p>\n

Power\u2019s teammate, Marcus Ericsson of Sweden, celebrated his contract renewal this week with Andretti Global for 2027 by qualifying fourth at 58.6729-seconds\/120.505 mph in the No. 28 Delaware Life Honda.<\/p>\n

Rinus VeeKay continued his strong season with the quickest lap by a Chevrolet-powered driver, placing fifth at 58.7701-seconds\/120.306 mph in the No. 76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tested here and starting Practice 1, we were quick right away,\u201d said VeeKay, a 25-year-old native of the Netherlands. \u201cWe were third that session. But then, this morning in Practice 2, everybody kind of started catching up. I think we had the pace for Fast 6, definitely did, but it’s just hard to make it happen. You have to be perfect. With this track being this finicky and everything being this close, really, really good job by the Juncos Hollinger crew. And having AM\/PM on the car this weekend is really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kyffin Simpson of the Cayman Islands will join VeeKay in Row 3 after qualifying sixth at 59.0841-seconds\/119.667 mph in the No. 8 Sunoco Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Simpson celebrated his first appearance this season in the Firestone Fast Six.<\/p>\n

Honda-powered drivers dominated qualifying, leading all three rounds in the knockout format and grabbing 10 of the first 12 qualifying spots.<\/p>\n

Besides VeeKay, the only Bowtie driver qualifying in the top-12 was championship contender David Malukas _ ninth at 58.8690-seconds\/120.104 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. However, Malukas will start six places back from that position as a penalty for an unapproved engine change at the previous round at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tenn.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Verizon Chevy is really good,\u201d said Malukas, a 24-year-old native of Chicago in his first season with Team Penske. \u201cWe had the speed to transfer to the Firestone Fast Six. The driver just made a few too many, small mistakes. Small mistakes are all it takes at this place where everyone is on top of each other. We\u2019ll take our grid penalty in the morning and start working our way forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Palou leads second-place Malukas by 83 points _ a gap of more than one race _ with six races remaining. A clean, steady race could expand that gap because Malukas and third-place Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global are starting behind the reigning series champion, with PIR\u2019s tight first-corner chicane sometimes inducing chaos and carnage toward the middle and back of the grid.<\/p>\n

Kirkwood qualified seventh at 58.8303-seconds\/120.183 mph in the No. 27 Sam\u2019s Club Honda, missing a spot in the Firestone Fast Six by 0.0352-seconds.<\/p>\n

Christian Lundgaard has scored more points on natural road-courses like PIR than any driver this season, but the native of Denmark struggled with various mechanical problems and didn\u2019t make it out the first round. Lundgaard qualified 25th at 59.5423-seconds\/118.746 mph in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.<\/p>\n

Alessandro de Tullio\u2019s march toward an INDY NXT by Firestone <\/strong>season record continued Saturday, albeit by a tiny margin.<\/p>\n

De Tullio earned his eighth pole of 2026 _ one shy of tying the all-time record for INDYCAR\u2019s developmental series _ in the No. 14 A.J. Foyt Racing entry. De Tullio held off Australian Lochie Hughes of Andretti Global by 0.0033-seconds to earn P1 for the Grand Prix of Portland. It was the fourth-closest duel for pole on a road or street circuit in series history.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnreal,\u201d said de Tullio, a 20-year-old native of Miami. \u201cThis season has been, in terms of speed, amazing. I just can\u2019t thank this team enough for giving me a great car. Every weekend, we\u2019re always there, always fast. We\u2019re constantly on the front row.\u201d<\/p>\n

Series rookie De Tullio has started first or second in 12 of the 14 races this season. He is trying to break the series record of nine poles set in 2018 by current NTT IndyCar Series ace Pato O\u2019Ward of Mexico and Arrow McLaren.<\/p>\n

De Tullio\u2019s pole-winning lap of 1-minute, 2.2006-seconds\/113.871 mph was registered in the first qualifying group. He was forced to sit and watch half of the field try to topple his time, with series veteran Hughes falling just short at 1:02.2039-seconds\/113.665 mph in the No. 26 Andretti Global entry on the 1.964-mile\/12-turn natural terrain road-course.<\/p>\n

Max Taylor will start third after his best lap of 1:02.2347-seconds\/113.609 mph in the No. 28 Susan G. Komen car of Andretti Global. Championship contender Tymek Kucharczyk of Poland, who led practice Saturday morning, will join Taylor in Row 2 after his lap of 1:02.2268-seconds\/113.623 mph in the No. 71 HMD Motorsports entry.<\/p>\n

Jacob Abel, making his first series start since 2024, qualified fifth at 1:02.3116-seconds\/113.468 mph in the No. 48 Abel Motorsports machine. Abel\u2019s teammate, Myles Rowe, completed the third row at 1:02.3408-seconds\/113.415 mph in the No. 99 Abel Motorsports with Force Indy car.<\/p>\n

Kucharczyk, 25 points behind series-leader Nikita Johnson, is the only one of three title contenders starting near the front. Johnson qualified ninth at 1:02.4178-seconds\/113.275 mph in the No. 21 Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR car. Fellow-rookie Enzo Fittipaldi, one point behind Johnson in second, will start 12th after his best lap of 1:02.5727-seconds\/112.995 mph in the No. 67 HMD Motorsports car.<\/p>\n

The 35-lap\/68.74-mile\/55-minute race will start at 2 p.m. (EDT) Sunday with coverage on FS1, FOX One and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls.<\/p>\n

While the title fight rages, De Tullio will try to convert his Saturday speed into Sunday success, a rarity this season. He has only one victory _ in March at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. _ despite starting on the front row 12 times. De Tullio is seventh in the championship standings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a little bit hard, as well, considering the speed we have and where we are in points and things that go on, it\u2019s a little bit difficult to think about that,\u201d de Tullio said. \u201cBut the important thing is we are there, we have the pace. On this side of things, it\u2019s been a great season.\u201d<\/p>\n
