Driver Alex Bowman has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsport Chevrolet for one more season, the organization announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

After the 2027 season, during which Bowman will make his 400th career start in the NASCAR Cup Series, the 33-year-old from Tucson, Arizona, will retire from full-time auto racing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve spent a lot of time thinking about what\u2019s next, and this feels like the right decision at the right time,\u201d Bowman said in a team release. \u201cThe sport asks a lot of you, and I\u2019ve learned it\u2019s important to listen to your body and make the right choices for yourself.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo say I\u2019m incredibly grateful to Mr. Hendrick, our partners at Ally and Chevrolet, and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports would be an understatement. They believed in me and gave me the biggest opportunity of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his nine-year tenure at Hendrick Motorsports, Bowman has won eight times in the Cup Series, most recently in the 2024 Chicago Street Race. He qualified for the Cup Series Playoffs seven times since 2018.<\/p>\n

Bowman also has battled injuries that caused him to miss races and most recently suffered from vertigo symptoms that keep him out of the car for four events early this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy focus now is on making the most of my time on the racetrack and competing for wins,\u201d Bowman said. \u201cWe still have a lot to accomplish, and I want to close my career on a high note for our team and our fans. To have the chance to do that with this organization and these people is really special.\u201d<\/p>\n

Team owner Rick Hendrick expressed gratitude for Bowman\u2019s contributions to one of the most successful NASCAR organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex has meant so much to our organization for a long time,\u201d Hendrick said. \u201cHe\u2019s overcome adversity, won big races and represented our team and partners with professionalism, personality and class.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex is a tremendous talent in the race car and an even better person outside of it. We\u2019re proud he\u2019ll have the opportunity to finish his full-time career with us on his terms. He\u2019s family.”<\/p>\n
