ENNIS, Texas \u2013 Four-time NHRA Top Fuel driver Steve Torrence of Kilgore, Texas will end his 2025 racing season after he competes this weekend at the 40th<\/sup> anniversary of the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.<\/p>\n

Torrence, who is a 56-time NHRA winner, said that due to changing priorities relating to his growing family and CAPCO, the pipeline construction company founded 30 years ago by his dad, Billy, the Texas rancher and businessman said he is opting out of the final two races of the 2025 season at Las Vegas and Pomona. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re in no contention for the championship and the way this points deal set up, it’s not going to benefit me anything,\u201d Torrence said. \u201cWe’re going to race here and put on a great show for these Texas fans. This is my home track. I’m proud of everybody here and the Meyers and the whole family that has put this together. I mean, this is a great show, the Stampede Week. I’m proud to be part of it. Thank you, guys, for coming out. Thank you, guys, for supporting this. We’re going to try to finish home, finish strong at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torrence enters Sunday\u2019s elimination rounds ranked eighth in the Top Fuel point standings and is 206 points out of the lead. He qualified seventh after posting a 3.709-second, 332.59 mph run in his Capco Contractors dragster during Friday\u2019s qualifying session and will face Josh Hart in the first round of eliminations on Sunday at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to the Motorplex with a plan to win the race no matter where we start,\u201d Torrence said. \u201cWe had a good test last week in Indianapolis so we\u2019ll see what we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torrence is a two-time winner at the Texas Motorplex. He scored his last victory here in 2020 and he is the only driver to have won NHRA championships in both the Top Fuel and Top Alcohol divisions. In 17 starts at the Texas Motorplex, Torrence has reached the finals six times. He has three No. 1 qualifiers and has a 26-15 win-loss record.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
