LAS VEGAS _ Ty Gibbs pulled away from the field on a restart with six laps remaining and held off the hometown favorite, Noah Gragson to claim his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the season in Saturday\u2019s Alsco Uniforms 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n

It was the first win of the year for Gibbs, 19, the grandson of NASCAR Hall of Fame Team Owner and three-time Super Bowl Champion Head Coach Joe Gibbs. He had an eventful day from the drop of the green flag. His No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota got just the nudge he needed from JR Motorsports\u2019 Justin Allgaier on that final restart then pulled away from Allgaier\u2019s teammate Gragson to take the lead for the first time on the day and ultimately score his fifth career series victory.<\/p>\n

This race had a little bit of everything \u2013 from snowflakes in the air to dust-ups on the track. There were 17 lead changes, 11 caution flags and a 42-minute red flag for light snow and rain.<\/p>\n

For the first half of the race, there was never more than a 15-lap period of green flag laps run between caution flags. There were seven yellow flags by Stage 2 (lap 90).<\/p>\n

Gibbs\u2019 day started with a run-in with veteran Ryan Sieg on Lap 4 of the 200-lap race. The two made enough contact while racing hard to send Sieg\u2019s No. 39 RSS Racing Ford hard into the outside wall. The team was still making repairs when the red flag came out for rain and reports of light snow.<\/p>\n

With drivers standing outside their cars, Sieg made his way down pit road to have what appeared to be an animated discussion with Gibbs about the incident. And  Sieg was visibly still frustrated after the talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tough, but it is what it is,\u2019\u2019 Sieg told reporters while still waiting by his car. \u201cHe\u2019s definitely going to have to learn his lesson, you know what I mean.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Gibbs remained adamant that he didn\u2019t do anything on purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told him if my goal was to wreck you and end your day, you wouldn\u2019t have made it around another lap,\u2019\u2019 a defiant Gibbs said.<\/p>\n

A few minutes later, he softened his tone and apologized for ruining Sieg\u2019s day and the impact it had on the Sieg\u2019s small, family-owned team. The race re-started, and only a handful of laps later, Sieg pulled alongside Gibbs and looked as if he was trying to wreck Gibbs, but he missed and spun out himself.<\/p>\n

Again, after the race, Gibbs apologized to Sieg on live television for starting the whole episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to apologize to the 39 (Sieg) for the contact I made, it wasn\u2019t my best decision and I\u2019m sorry to the whole group, Ryan\u2019s family they work so hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to say thank you to Justin Allgaier for my push too,\u2019\u2019 Gibbs added. \u201cI had a fun time racing with the Junior cars (JR Motorsports) too so hopefully we can keep it going and win some more races.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s go,\u2019\u2019 he added with a scream.<\/p>\n

Certainly it was a bitter pill for Gragson to swallow. He won both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the race and was leading when the final caution came out for a multi-car wreck in Turn 4. He lined up with Kaulig Racing\u2019s Daniel Hemric behind him. His teammate Allgaier was behind Gibbs and Gibbs was able to pull away just enough to pull away to a nearly half-second lead before a wreck – after the white flag – froze the field.<\/p>\n

Gragson finished runner-up followed by Hemric and JR Motorsports drivers Josh Berry and Allgaier.  Landon Cassill, rookie Sheldon Creed, Brett Moffitt, polesitter A.J. Allmendinger and Brandon Jones completed the Top 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just kind of got beat at our own game there. Restarts just came up short,\u2019\u2019 Gragson said, adding \u201cJust needed to be better. Congrats to them and we\u2019ll keep working hard. Thankful to this team led by Luke Lambert and we\u2019ll come back stronger next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, I wanted to be in Victory Lane, but it could be a hell of a lot worse, \u2018\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Though Gragson was immensely disappointed to miss out on the win, this marks his consecutive second runner-up finish in 2022. He has a third place and two second-place showings and holds the Xfinity Series championship lead by 17 points over Gibbs.<\/p>\n

The next NASCAR Xfinity Series race is scheduled for Saturday at Phoenix Raceway, the United Rentals 200 (4:30 p.m. ET, FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Austin Cindric is the defending winner, taking the trophy over runner-up Gibbs.<\/p>\n
