Glenn methodically marching toward his first NHRA Pro Stock title
By John Sturbin, Raceday San Antonio
ENNIS – A pragmatic Dallas Glenn exited the Texas Motorplex Sunday afternoon poised for his first NHRA Pro Stock world championship.

Glenn trailered Aaron Stanfield in the final of the 40th annual NHRA Texas Fall Nationals to notch his seventh win of the season, 20th of his career and third-in-four Countdown to the Championship playoff races. Glenn’s first victory on the Motorplex’s famed all-concrete surface also boosted his lead over arch-rival Greg Anderson from 25-to-60 points with two races remaining.
“I definitely feel more relaxed this season in the Countdown, maybe because last year was so ridiculously brutal,” said Glenn, who watched Anderson secure his sixth Pro Stock crown by 11 points (2,714-2,703) – less than one round of racing worth 20 points. “I mean, I don’t even remember it as 11 points – I remember it as two-thousandths-of-a-second.
“As far as my reaction times, I was driving way better last year than this year. I feel like I’m good and consistent, but not as good as I should be. I was definitely on it last year but the car came around and we’ve got a better handle on it, got more experience and I feel more relaxed going into it. This year it feels like it’s been me and Greg against the world. As long as I can try edging-up a little bit on Greg, I think we got it.”

Driver of the RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro, Glenn covered the quarter-mile during the final in 6.605-seconds at 208.89 mph. Stanfield ran 6.622-seconds at 208.75 mph in the Janac Brothers Racing Camaro. Glenn defeated Cody Coughlin, Eric Latino and five-time Pro Stock world champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. en route to the final pairing.
Glenn’s path to victory was facilitated when Stanfield upset Anderson, who qualified No. 1 in the HendrickCars.com Camaro, during their semifinal.
“I would have felt the same way if Greg was next to me or not,” said Glenn, a 34-year-old native of Covington, Wash., residing in Mooresville, N.C. “I hadn’t felt like I was hitting the (Christmas) tree very good today…I wasn’t getting the numbers and the results I wanted. It was good enough to get it done. And the crew chiefs did a fantastic job getting the car down the track four times.”
Glenn’s Chevy is tuned by the triumvirate of Rob Downing, former Pro Stock competitor Dave Connolly and Nate VanWassenhove.

“I knew we had a good car going into it and it was up to me to maintain that, not mess it up,” Glenn said. “I just try to take everything one win at a time. Soon as we get to the next track I don’t even think about the last one. Everything is in the past and I’m focused on the next one. But I’ve always had in the back of my mind that Dave Connolly has 27 (wins), and I’d really like to get past him.”
That mindset also applies to Anderson, 64, the all-time winner in the “Factory Hot Rod” class. “You know, Greg Anderson, there’s a reason he’s got 113 wins or something (actually 112),” Glenn said. “His car is fast and he always does his job when he needs to. To be able to beat him at all at any point in a race is tough, especially in the Countdown, because throughout the season his car just gets better and better and better and better. I don’t want to have a repeat of last year. I want to be 11 points to the good side this time.
“I just need to keep turning on win lights, just hit all my shift-points every run, just try to get every bonus point I can because Greg’s going to take all of ‘em if I don’t. Do everything I can and let the crew chiefs do their job. If I can continue to do that – continue to turn on win lights, continue to have a little bit of luck on my side – I think we can wrap it up.”

Glenn began his title quest by winning the 2025 season-opening NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., and followed by hoisting Wally Trophies after the Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas; Four-Wide Nationals in Concord, N.C.; at Kent, Wash., near Seattle; at Reading, Pa., and the fall Four-Wide Carolina Nats in Concord.
Sunday’s eliminations put a bow on the fifth annual Stampede of Speed, a 10-day program of drag racing mixed with Texas-themed live music, menus and family-friendly events throughout Ellis County. All that activity punctuated the 40th birthday celebration of International Drag Racing Hall of Famer Billy Meyer’s Motorplex.
“I think it’s my second final here; we let one slip by a few years ago,” Glenn said. “To come here on the 40th anniversary year and win my 20th race is definitely special, a cool milestone.”
Next event on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series schedule is the NHRA Nevada Nationals Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It will be the fifth event in the Countdown and penultimate race of the season.
