Famous Martinsville Hot Dogs at Home

by Dixie Haag | Posted on Saturday, April 1st, 2017

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is at Martinsville Speedway this weekend for the STP 500.  There are two famous traditions In Martinsville, the Ridgeway Grandfather Clock and the “STP style” fully loaded hot dog.  To get acquainted with the hot dog, take a look at the videos below.  The Martinsville hot dog has been a staple at the track for a long time, and even after a change in 2015, it remains a staple today.  If you’re watching from home like I am this weekend, you will miss out on that famous dog unless you do an at-home replica.  I know we won’t be able to duplicate this famous dog exactly, but we are pretty close!  To chase down this chili dog with slaw, I’ll be drinking a nice Zinfandel that can handle the bold flavors.  Hot dogs are classic and not fussy.  You want your drink of choice to be simple and classic, too.  I know a fan favorite to go with hot dogs is beer.  I’m not a beer drinker (I hope you don’t lose respect for me because of that!), but it seems that this hot dog would go well with your favorite craft beer, too.  Make a bunch of these hot dogs. . .fans tend to eat many, and a friend of Mike’s even ate 50 in one weekend!  So eat up and drink up while you watch the beating and banging on NASCAR’s oldest track.  The excitement of this short track should pair well with the excitement of this hot dog!
