Why I’m Proud to Be a NASCAR Fan

by Dixie Haag | Posted on Sunday, March 12th, 2017

So, I’m a sports fan in general.  I love watching all kinds of sports.  Being from Texas, I love football.  Being from San Antonio, I love basketball.  As I watched my beloved Spurs play the Warriors last night, I was reminded of one of the reasons I love to watch NASCAR races.  In racing, all the stars compete every week.  We come to the track or tune in to the TV to see our favorite drivers tear it up.  It was hard for me last season when my favorite driver was out with health concerns, but I knew he would be back the minute he could.  I knew that he wasn’t just resting, but he was trying to make sure he was able to race in the future.  He wanted to race, he just couldn’t.  To watch sports and not see my favorite players competing is boring.  Last night both basketball teams were resting their stars.  Neither team needed to win the game to put themselves in playoff contention.  Neither team felt the need to put their best players on the floor.  I love that in NASCAR there is no such thing as a race a driver doesn’t need to win.  Everyone wants to win every week.  That’s how sports should be played.  That’s what we fans want to see.  Sports are a way to bring out the best in us. . .or the worst in us.  I always want to the see the best.  In NASCAR, all the stars show up at every race.  That’s why I’m proud to be a NASCAR fan!
